Ionel Cococi is an artist born and raised in Vădastra. He makes clay vases and statuettes respecting this ancient culture's techniques and motiffs.
He starts by manually shaping the vases. Next, he carves each piece and rubs it with white clay to create the famous motifs and spirals. Finally, the vases are burned in a covered oven to obtain the dark colour.

Vădastra is a small village in Olt county (southern Romania) where artefacts created by a complex Neolithic culture are still being unearthed today.
Complex displays of civilisation and settlements belonging to Vădastra culture (6000-3500 BC) can be observed between the rivers Olt and Jiu. The pottery, excised and heavily encrusted with a white substance, is considered to be the highest expression of the art of decorative pottery of all European Neo-Eneolithic.
