The traditional Romanian celebration garment, IA, is a blouse that has been always hand embroidered with various vegetal and geometrical motifs often specific to each area of the country. Back in the old days, chromatics and motifs defining the blouse also marked a phase in the life of its owner -- the mourning ia was always stitched with black threads on white fabric, while the bride's ia always had some red motifs sewn on it. In time, many of the ancient beliefs were lost and motifs belonging to certain areas are now widespread in workshops all over Romania, where the blouses are still hand sewn. It takes up to seven weeks to craft a single IA! In our shop we only have Romanian blouses hand stitched in Breaza, a small city well-known for its workshops where the craft of stitching IA blouses on cotton has been passed down from generation to generation. We are proud to say all IA blouses from my romanian store are unique due to their hand made nature -- each and every blouse is painstakingly stitched with care and love. And, in spite all similarities, we guarantee each IA is always different. IA is an authentic Romanian garment carrying on some of our people's traditions!
