The self-taught artisan Viorel Marian discovered his passion for wood by a lucky mistake twenty years ago and ever since he has been sculpting spoons made from poplar and cherry wood. In his workshop from Fălticeni (a city in the north-eastern part of Romania), the artist is turning ordinary pieces of wood into artworks by carving incredibly detailed archaic Romanian motifs in the wooden spoons. Marian’s dedication, patience and love for details is palpable as he executes each piece with an impeccable technique, always adding an unmistakable personal touch to the spoon. In each wooden spoon you will discover beautifully crafted symbols telling a story about old and almost forgotten Romanian traditions and customs of the past.
